Project Description
Oz Young Roman is an original typeface created during the first semester at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in the typography class led by Lisa Schultz. The goal was to design a highly legible typeface for body text that maintains its clarity even at small sizes.
Inspired by early Roman Antiqua typefaces and the dramatic interplay of light and shadow in the paintings of Caravaggio and the sculptures of Bernini, Oz Young Roman blends classical elegance with subtle individuality. At first glance, it appears smooth and harmonious, yet a closer look reveals fine edges and details that add depth and character.
Roman Antiqua typefaces, rooted in classical inscriptions of antiquity, are known for their balanced proportions and distinctive serif structures. They embody clarity and timelessness — qualities that have been thoughtfully carried into Oz Young Roman.
The result is a typeface that combines playful lightness with a strong typographic foundation. Complete with essential special characters and numerals, it is well-suited for both print and digital applications.
